Abstract

This research article presents new and improved color image edge detection scheme using morphological operator. It is known as Multilevel Morphological Fuzzy Edge Detection (MMFED) scheme for color images. MMFED algorithm enhancing the image by means of morphological based multilevel fuzzy algorithm using a transformation function based on threshold values. Based on the morphological function there will be two threshold values (i.e.) object of an image and background of an image, second the image can be enhanced using a two-level edge detection process. The first level edge detection process defines the edge structure and properties. This level will depends on the characteristics (i.e.) the image grey level. Then the second level edge detection process uses morphological operator to detect more accurate and fine edges. Experimental result analysis shows that the proposed multilevel morphological based fuzzy edge detection scheme extracts the fine edges with more accuracy. Performance analysis demonstrates that the proposed MMFED scheme leads than the other multilevel edge detection algorithm in terms of accuracy.
