Abstract

Taking into account the gyromagnetic properties of multilayer two-component structures of which one or both components are magnetoactive materials shows that their optical properties can be controlled by an external magnetic field. In particular, when applied to multilayer structures with a phase shift (defect), the magnetic field changes (decreases or increases) the width of the spectral resonance curve of the transmission coefficient. The application of longitudinal and transverse (relative to the light propagation direction) magnetic fields gives different results. Analysis shows that the effects observed may find application, for example, in fiber optics.
