Abstract

Single polymer composites (SPCs) are relatively new type of composite materials where reinforcement and matrix are made of the same polymeric material or the same group of materials. The favorable mechanical properties of SPC are due to the macromolecular orientation of fibers or tapes used in their production. This paper presents the results of selecting the most favorable SPC manufacturing process temperature and the use of such materials for a three-layer polypropylene composite production, where the core layer is made of 50 wt % filler polypropylene-wood composite (WPC). The developed material reveals better mechanical bending properties, compared to unfilled polypropylene and to traditional WPC with 30 wt % wood flour content.
