Abstract
Significant progress has been made in improving the stable efficiency of amorphous silicon alloy solar cells and modules. This has been achieved through a better understanding of the effect of plasma chemistry and growth kinetics on material characteristics and incorporation of the material in optimum device configurations. The R&D results have now been translated to production, and amorphous silicon alloy photovoltaic products are now being used for a variety of applications ranging from consumer products to grid-connected large power systems. In this chapter, we discuss the science and technology of amorphous silicon alloy solar cells and modules.
