Abstract

Our goal was to develop a multifunctional, continuous glass fabric-reinforced epoxy matrix composite, and to present a solution for deformation self-sensing with the use of an arbitrarily chosen fibre bundle. To do this, we made the reinforcing fibre bundle suitable for transmitting light and showed that the intensity of light transmitted by the illuminated bundles changes as a result of deformation. Our results shows the basis how the reinforcing rovings of the composite can be used as a deformation monitoring sensor indicating external load.
