Abstract

Running-in and wear experiments were carried out on a pin-on-disc tester. The multifractal spectra parameters of frictional vibration signals were calculated by applying the multifractal theory. It was observed that the frictional vibration signals had a multifractal nature. The variation in multifractal spectra parameters indicated that the running-in process lasted from the initial friction of two surfaces to their fitted state (i.e., running-in state). The running-in progress and state of a friction pair can be assumed by observing the variations in multifractal spectra parameters of frictional vibration signals.
