Abstract

Hypertension should not be considered as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in isolation. This message was echoed by several speakers at the 14th Meeting of the Society of Hypertension in Madrid, Spain, as they presented new data on the combined effects of several risk factors. Accordingly, the overall recommendation was for a multidisciplinary approach to hypertensive therapy in the context of other cardiovascular risk factors present in patients.
