Abstract

There are no evidence-based guidelines to direct the use of bracing for patients with stable thoracolumbar fractures. A recent randomized controlled trial suggested there was no measurable benefit to using a custom made thoracolumbar spine orthosis (c-TLSO) for stable thoracolumbar burst fractures. Given the high cost of c-TLSO, we convened a multidisciplinary committee to develop guidelines about appropriate brace use and to seek out effective, less costly bracing options. Our goals were to reduce the unnecessary bracing with a c-TLSO.
