Abstract
•Astragali Radix (AR) is a functional food. In this study, three-wavelength fusion profile (TWFP) and electrochemical fingerprinting (ECFP) of AR from various sources were constructed, and their quality was evaluated by the comprehensive ratio quantitative fingerprinting method (CRQFM). The antioxidant activity of AR was determined using 1,1-diphenyl-2-trinitrophenylhydrazine (DPPH) scavenging assay. The association between DPPH scavenging assay and ECFP was analyzed using TWFP as a bridge. The results showed that CRQFM could categorize the quality of wild and cultivated AR samples from six origins into 8 quality classes. In ECFP, the contents of electroactive components from different sources could be characterized by the comprehensive macro quantitative similarity (Pmc-EC). In antioxidant analysis, ECFP showed strong similarity with the results of the DPPH scavenging assay, with 17 shared peaks contributing significantly to the antioxidant activity. The present study provides a new direction for the study of quality and fingerprint-efficacy relationship of AR.
