Abstract

The impact of controversial subjects and information technology on research in academic libraries is the subject of this essay. The debates surrounding multiculturalism, problems encountered during information retrieval and instruction of patrons involved in scholarly pursuits illustrate the changes occurring in contemporary libraries. The article also discusses user perceptions of database structures, the importance of librarians remaming sensitive to the public, and confirms the need for service oriented professionals in academic libraries.
