Abstract
Abstract The equation describing instantaneous copolymer composition in free radical vinyl copolymerization has been known and verified for many years. Although this equation has been integrated to give composition as a function of conversion, no analytical expression has been presented which gives conversion as a simple function of time. In this paper a derivation and experimental verification of such an equation is presented. Applications to problems in copolymerization kinetics are also considered. Extension of the equation to systems of more than two monomers is postulated.
