Abstract

Copper(I)-bis(imino)pyridine-triphenylphosphine complex (2a) was prepared from the reaction of bis(imino)pyridine ligand and [Cu(PPh3)3Cl]. The tetracoordinated copper(I) complex was characterized by UV–Visible, NMR and elemental analysis. The molecular structure of 2a was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and adopts a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the copper centre. The copper(I) 2a was established as catalyst for one-pot multicomponent Click reaction of aryl halides and sodium azide with terminal alkynes using 0.5 mol % catalyst loading in methanol as a solvent. Several 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles have been synthesized in moderate to excellent yields.
