Abstract

We review in this paper several aspects of the dissociation dynamics of small molecules upon innershell excitation which have been investigated by the PhotoElectron-PhotoIon-PhotoIon-PhotoIon COincidence PE3PICO technique. The ICN molecule is found to show a non Coulomb behaviour and an impulsive model is proposed to account for the fast breaking of its chemical bonds. Multicoincidence patterns on CS 2 photoexcited around the sulphur K edge (2500 eV) reveal a pronounced anisotropy in the angular distribution of the fragments when the ions are detected parallel or perpendicular to the polarisation vector of the incoming photon beam.
