Abstract

Multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) has played an important role in shear wave velocity survey of subsurface. Modern urban engineering construction needs more and more high-resolution detection of shallow underground objects. However, the traditional MASW method will reduce the detection depth when the receiving array length is reduced to improve lateral resolution. We propose a modified multichannel analysis method of surface waves based on short array stacked correlation gather (SCG-MASW) to solve this problem. The geometry of SCG-MASW is same as MASW, but surface wave dispersion is derived from short array stacked correlation gather instead of shot gather. Both theoretical and experimental data show that the SCG-MASW can improve the lateral resolution by using short receiving array, while not reducing the detection depth.
