Abstract

Inspired by the excellent performance of recent frequency agile radar (FAR) technology in complex electromagnetic environments, we propose the multi-carrier agile phased array radar (MAPAR). MAPAR enhaces the performance of FAR by transmiting multiple carrier frequencies in a single pulse with separate sub-arrays of antennas for each frequency. Furthermore, the indices of the selected frequencies and the corresponding antenna elements can be used to convey digital communication messages. In this paper, we discuss the signal model of MAPAR and the corresponding range-Doppler reconstruction algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the radar performance improvement of the proposed MAPAR over traditional FAR.
