Abstract

A Multiband 2×1 annular ring microstrip antenna with Defected ground structure is proposed and investigated. A DGS is a defected etched periodic or non-periodic configuration in a ground plane of a microstrip antenna. To achieve band stop characteristics and to suppress higher order harmonics and mutual coupling between adjacent array elements and to minimize cross polarization DGS concept has been used. A single radiator antenna is not good enough to give required radiation characteristics while use of an antenna arrays offer improved directivity and efficiency compared to single element. Effect of the variation in the radiation characteristics by changing parameters of two different circular radios (R1 andR2) are studied in this work. A Multiband 2×1 annular ring microstrip antenna with Defected ground structure provides multiple bands for 5 GHz, 10 GHz and 13 GHz for different structure meanwhile it exhibits excellent radiation patterns with improved bandwidth and linear polarization. Major results are consistent with the simulation from IE3d simulator.
