Abstract
A criterion is developed for multiaxial fatigue life prediction including the mean stress effect. The total strain energy density modified by the weight function associated with mean stress has been used as a damage parameter. A brief description of how Δ W t can be calculated is given. Finally, an extended energy based fatigue damage criterion with mean stress effect is proposed. The predicted results are compared with experimental data for low carbon steel and CrVa steel. The comparison shows reasonably good effectiveness of the proposed criterion.
