Abstract

Current strategies used in the design of stormwater retention facilities, as determined from a survey of consultants, are described. The effectiveness of these design strategies in meeting stated runoff quantity objectives are evaluated. The limitations of the current procedures are demonstrated and an alternate design method is proposed. The alternate method considers both a high and low frequency event for the design of the outlet structure, and is capable of meeting design objectives more closely.
