Abstract

In this paper, a phased array monopole radiator with and without absorber for ultra broadband applications is presented. The proposed operates over 2–18 GHz and has dimension of 21 mm × 31 mm × 1.9 mm. The simulation result shows that VSWR is less than 2.0 in the specified frequency band. It is shown that the radiation pattern of bidirectional antenna is omni-directional in elevation and bidirectional in azimuth plane, while it is omnidirectional and unidirectional in azimuth and elevation planes for unidirectional antenna. The antenna gain at the selected frequencies of 15 GHz and 18 GHz are 2.0 dB and 3.0 dB, respectively. The designed antenna is fabricated and various parameters such as gain, radiation pattern and return loss are measured and compared with simulation results. It is verified that the simulation and measured results agree well. The simulation is carried out using Ansys HFSS software and concluding remarks are reported.
