Abstract

This paper examines the multi-objective availability and cost optimization of a periodically inspected system. A system with [Formula: see text] independent failure modes is specifically considered. The principal characteristic of the proposed model is that the inspection and maintenance time is nonnegligible and corrective maintenance results in as good as a new unit. This paper focuses on evaluating the general expressions for limiting availability and long-run average cost of the system undergoing periodic inspections. The multi-objective optimization issue is solved by first generating the Pareto-optimal solutions using particle swarm optimization and then selecting the best compromise solution using a fuzzy method. A numerical illustration is also presented to highlight the applicability of the proposed work.
