Abstract

A method is presented for analyzing moisture absorption and desorption in multi-material models with constant boundary conditions. It is shown that a multi-material system can be converted into a single material system where the moisture analysis can be performed with existing theory. The conversion process is accomplished by adjusting the thickness of the dif ferent layers of material accordingly. The effective thickness of the con verted laminate is shown to be governed by the square root of the ratio of the respective material diffusion coefficients. Numerical results are pre sented for a hybrid composite of B/5505 and AS/3501-5.
