Abstract

A new concept is prestressed concrete reactor pressure vessel design is described: a multi-layer (double-wall) vessel with intermediate water gap under automatic pressure equalization with the reactor cooling medium. Each layer in the composite vessel has assigned its special function, the prestressed concrete of the actual load-bearing outer wall being outside of any thermal and radiation influence. A versatile and efficient stress analysis program based on the dynamic relaxation concept has been set up in context with the vessel development and an extensive series of bi- and tri-axial concrete strength tests has been performed.
