Abstract

The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in developing countries is generally badly controlled and badly managed. Because of the environmental problems bound to this problem, many countries established their national legislation to determine types of reuse, recycling and treatment of waste, to apply the appropriate solutions. In this study, alternate schemes are examined and analysed aiming at the improvement of MSW management in Morocco. These schemes are estimated by developing and applying the Preference Ranking Organisation Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) method consisting in a multi-criteria analysis of the parameters and the constraints bound to the financial, technical, environmental and social aspects. Thus, 18 alternate management schemes were compared and ranked according to their performance and their efficiency. The obtained results will certainly help the Decision- Makers (DMs) to make a decision for the best waste management scheme, which hold in account particularities of every region, commune or municipality in Morocco.
