Abstract
小豆島の中新統を構成する2つの累層に属する瀬戸内火山岩類についてマルチ年代測定を行った．測定結果を地質年代学的・統計学的に検討した結果，下位および上位の累層は，14.3－14.4Maと13.1－13.4Maに形成されたことが明らかとなった．ジルコンU-Pb年代測定は，マグマティックなジルコンが存在する場合には，またジルコンフィッション・トラック年代およびK-Ar，Ar-Ar鉱物年代は，二次変質の無い試料については信頼性の高いマグマ活動年代を与える．一方K-ArおよびAr-Ar全岩年代測定法は、二次変質および基盤岩類の混染に対する注意が必要である．さらに注目すべきは，小豆島の火山岩類には，たとえ未分化な高Mg安山岩であっても，火山活動より有意に古いU-Pb年代を示す捕獲結晶ジルコンが普遍的に含まれる点である．これらの多くは基盤の後期白亜紀花崗岩類に由来するが，さらに古い年代を示すジルコンも存在する．
