Summary

Introduction

Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) which is recognized as the most common cause of genital ulcer disease worldwide [1,2]. Most of the people infected are unaware in spite of symptoms [3]. HSV-2 infection is a growing global problem with high prevalence in women in developing countries, especially those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection [4]. Studies show that STIs like HSV-2 increases the probability of someone acquiring HIV as well as enhances transmission by increasing susceptibility and infectiousness [5].
