Abstract

Cascade topology of multilevel inverter is generally applicable for medium voltage high power applications. Cascade topology has put an end to the limitations of two-level classical inverter due to superior quality of output voltage, better harmonic performance and low account of voltage stress on the switching devices. Pulse width modulation technique proved to be more beneficial, to elevate the harmonic performance of the cascade multilevel inverter multi carrier PWM (MCPWM) techniques are used. This paper emphasizes on the performance of CMI under different multi carrier PWM techniques and their comparison is done using SIMULINK/MATLAB platform. Due to distinguished features of CMI, the applicability of the CMI increases, in this paper major application of CMI is overviewed.
