Abstract

Muhlenbergia, subgenus Muhlenbergia (Gramineae, subfamily Eragrostoideae), consists of a group of usually rhizomatous, leafy, mesic grasses confined largely to eastern temperate North America, the western Cordillera, and temperate eastern Asia. Twelve species and one named hybrid from North America are discussed. Treatments include keys to species, varieties and forms, descriptions, discussions of nomenclature, cytology, hybridization, distribution, and ecology. Taxa included are: M. glomerata, M. racemosa, M. mexicana, M. andina, M. schreberi, M. setarioides, M. X curtisetosa, M. frondosa, M. bushii (nom. nov.), M. glabrifloris, M. sobolifera, M. tenuiflora>, and M. sylvatica.
