Abstract

In this letter, the Mueller polarimetry is applied to study the scattering properties of soil, sand, clay, and moss. We measure the whole Mueller matrices of the samples as a function of the observation angle at the wavelength of 632.8 nm. The patterns of measured matrix elements and the results of subsequent interpretation of the experimental Mueller matrices show that the Mueller polarimetry in the visible range makes it possible to identify the reliability of the samples of soil, sand, clay, and moss.
