Abstract

Human history has witnessed a number of natural pandemics of diseases in the past such as smallpox, tuberculosis, cholera, measles, and the deadliest of all, the Black Death – Plague. The current pandemic of Covid-19 in the 21st century, however, seems to be different because of the supposed non-natural origin of the virus and an ability to change its virulence and strain so quickly. As our understanding of this virus is increasing, unusual associations and occurrences are coming to our forefront. One such lethal association that has recently been of concern and taken lots of lives especially during the recovery phase is the occurrence of fungal infection in the form of Mucormycosis or Black fungus. In this review, we highlight the significance, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of this very association.
