Abstract

A specimen of Mucor indicus was isolated from a dung sample collected in the city of Sertânia in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco and its identity confirmed through LSU rDNA sequence analysis. The taxon is described and illustrated for the first time from South America. An identification key is provided for Mucor species from the northeast Brazilian semiarid region (Caatinga).
