Abstract
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is one of the malignant tumors of more aggressive salivary glands. A 56-year-old male patient, smoker and drinker for 30 years, was attended in the stomatology center with chief complaint of a lump in his mouth. Intraoral examination showed nodular and spherical lesion, normochromic, soft and smooth consistency, located on the left side of the soft palate with clinical diagnostic hypothesis of pleomorphic adenoma or another salivary gland neoplasia. Panoramic radiograph was made, which showed no signs of bone involvement. Incisional biopsy was conducted, and slices showed a diagnostic consistent with MEC. The patient was referred for head and neck surgery for treatment of his condition and is now undergoing surgical recovery. This case illustrated an innocent appearance of palate nodule that should be considered MEC as a diagnostic in this kind of proliferative lesions of the oral cavity.
