Abstract

A female patient, 37 years of age, reported volume increase in the right side of the face in 5 months with painful symptoms. An intraoral examination revealed an endophytic palatal and vestibular lesion, extending from the premolar region to the molar region. The radiographic examination showed a radiolucent lesion with radiopaque areas near the maxillary sinus. The patient presented a history of untreated lesion on the palate diagnosed as adenocarcinoma in 1997. In 2018, a new incisional biopsy was performed. The histologic examination showed the malignant neoplasm of salivary gland characterized cystic spaces lined by a single layer of mucous cells and areas with epidermoid cells. Histochemical analysis of the mucous cells and contents of the microcystic spaces were stained positive with the mucicarmine. The final diagnosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma was issued. The patient was referred for treatment in the Liga norterriograndense contra o câncer and is followed up.
