Abstract

Vagus nerve stimulation, which is produced with a neuroprosthesis developed by Cyberonics (VNS Therapy, Cyberonics, Inc., Houston, TX, USA), reduces the mean monthly frequency of seizures by 42–71% [1–3]. To date, more than 50,000 patients worldwide have been implanted with the device, which is a generator that is attached to the vagus nerve and, at follow-up neurology appointments, is adjusted transcutaneously with an external, handheld computer [2].
