Abstract

Cognitive symptoms are one of the diagnostic criteria for depression. However, there is currently no gold standard for their identification and assessment. This article reviews current assessment methods, including history-taking and psychometric assessment. There are 3 types of psychometric assessment tools: a) clinicianrated outcome measures (CROM); b) patient-reported outcome measures (PROM), and c) mixed, assessed by both the clinician and patient (CROM + PROM). The current tendency is to use assessment methods that combine both types of information: objective, provided by the clinician and based on observation of the patient's performance of specific tasks, and subjective, based on the patient's self-perceived difficulties.
