Abstract

Background and aims: Cardiovascular disease is now a public health crisis, affecting millions of people in both developed and developing countries. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, usually caused by atherosclerosis, and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Various risk factors have been found to be associated with the development of CHD. The role of MTHFR (C677T and A1298C) polymorphisms is well established. The present research endeavored to study the association between coronary heart disease and the C677T and A1289C polymorphisms of the MTHFR gene.
