Abstract

Mossbauer spectra of the low temperature phase of single crystal magnetite(Fe 3 O 4 ) have been measured with changing the direction of the applied magnetic field with respect to the crystal axes. Data were analyzed taking into account the relative orientation of the hyperfine magnetic field to the principal axes of the electric field gradient tensor. Consequently details of the electric field gradient of one B site ion were clarified.
