Abstract

AbstractThe deformation of the 3d5 electron shell of iron atoms in an MnFe2O4 spinel is investigated by means of Mössbauer effect measurements with 60 kOe and without an external magnetic field at 4.2 K. An analysis of ME spectra is carried out using neutron spectroscopy data. It is found that the 3d5 shell deformation observed by neutron spectroscopy brings about the quadrupole splitting 23d = −0.040 mm/s. A change of the charge density at 3d5 electron shell is calculated to be about 0.3%. A dipole magnetic contribution to the effective field on iron ions in octahedral sites, HD, is estimated as +17.6 kOe. The magnitude of all other hyperfine interaction parameters of 57Fe nuclei are also given.
