Abstract

There is a long standing interest in the possible coexistence of magnetic order and superconductivity, and this interest has been enhanced by some recent results. Low temperature anomalies in specific heat and magnetic susceptibility in superconducting Er1.0Mo6S8 and Er1.0Mo6Se8 or Er1.2Mo6Se8 (1) suggest the occurrence of magnetic order, while magnetic ordering is observed to destroy superconductivity in Ho1.2Mo6S8 (2). We wish to report here on the initial Mossbauer experiments on the compound ErxMo6Se8 with x=0.5; resistance anomalies have been observed for x = 1.0 and 1.2 at around 1.07 K (1).
