Abstract

The basic features of Mössbauer spectroscopy have been reviewed in a rather tutorial way. After a brief description of the standard experimental setup, available nuclear transitions, standard sources and absorbers, the review progresses in a way typically adopted by a theorist. Basic hyperfine interactions are discussed first, followed by the discussion of relevant lattice dynamics and, finally, methods of the spectra evaluation are reviewed. The important case of time-dependent hyperfine interactions (i.e., relaxation and diffusion) has been included too.
