Abstract

The mean square displacement and its temperature dependence in polymers, triphenyltin acetate and triphenyltin levulinate, and in a monomer, triphenyltin methacrylate, were determined. The results indicate that the helical chain polymer structure reduces the intermolecular interaction to the same extent as the monomer structure. The sign of the electric field gradient (efg) was also determined by using needle crystalline acetate. The ( I z = ± 3 2 ) level was found to be lower than the ( I z = ± 1 2 ) level. This suggests that the σ-polarization in SnC bond is more predominant than the n-back donation from the oxygen ligand atoms.
