Abstract

Studies by 237Np Mössbauer spectroscopy showed the Np(V) ions in Cs 3NpO 2Cl 4 to be in two different sides of high asymmetry. The compounds reported as “Cs 2NpOCl 5” and “[(C 6H 5) 4As] 2NpOCl 5” were found to be a mixture of Np(IV) and Np(VI) chlorocomplexes by 237Np Mössbauer and optical spectra. Np(IV) and Np(VI) chlorocomplexes were also studied to confirm conclusions drawn from spectral data.
