Abstract

Mössbauer measurements of the amorphous Fe 72- x Ni 10+ x-y Mo y B 16Si 2 system ( x=0, 2; y=0, 1 and 3) show that the average hyperfine magnetic field and Curie temperature decrease linearly with Mo concentration ( y) at a rate of approximately 8.5 kOe/Mo-at.% and 26 K/Mo-at.% for the x = 0 sample, and 7.9 kOe/Mo-at.% and 34 K/Mo-at.% for the x = 2 sample, respectively. The hyperfine field distribution is found to be bimodal indicating that Fe atoms in this system find themselves in two local environments, one rich in Ni and another rich in Mo atoms.
