Abstract

In the study of Fe2+ -Fe3+ valence exchange on octahedral sites in Fe3O4 the line broadening of the Mössbauer spectrum of the B sites with respect to the A sites has frequently been considered experimental proof for an electron hopping model. The present investigation shows, however, that this broadening is the result of electric quadrupolar and magnetic dipolar effects.
