Abstract

Magnetic and Mössbauer experiments on fine grains of γ-Fe 2O 3 coated with citrate anions and included or not in an electroconducting polymer matrix are combined in order to study superparamagnetic relaxation phenomena. The mean particle diameters calculated from the magnetization curves were found to be very similar for the starting ferrofluid and the polymer. Mössbauer experiments indicate that smaller particles (30–45 Å) are preferentially included into the polymer matrix and lead to a tiny difference in the anisotropic constant K values of the two samples, that could be due to few aggregation of the particles in the sample without polymer. The study of the recoil-free fraction f shows that the polymer has no major influence through the value of the Debye temperature.
