Abstract

We have investigated the orientation of the spins in two different types of storage media by Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetization loops. A method for determining the spin distribution function is outlined and applied to systems of acicular and isotropic particles. This distribution function describes correlated regious, resulting from particle interactions. For acicular particles is was not sensitive to the field history of the sample, but a history dependence was observed for isotropic particles.
