Abstract

Using Tungsten disulfide WS2 nanoparticles as a nanolubricant additive could improve the lubrication performance. The main objective of the present work is to numerically study the effect of nanoparticle diameters on the friction reduction on two sliding surfaces in a lubrication system. The studied nanofluid is 5W-30 engine oil based on WS2 nanoparticles. In this study, the flow of confined nanofluid by two moving surfaces is simulated by the Lattice Boltzmann method with multiple relaxation times. The results show that the greatest friction reduction is always obtained for large diameter nanoparticles.
