Abstract
Total RNA from rat thymus was isolated and fractionated into poly A − and poly A + RNA. The translation products directed by the poly A − and poly A + RNA were immunoprecipitated with affinity pure antibodies to chromosomal protein HMG-1. Examination of the immunoprecipitates reveals that the m-RNA for chromosomal proteins HMG-1 and HMG-2 is polyadenylated. Thus, the m-RNA for these chromosomal proteins differ from those for the nucleosomal histones and resemble those coding for the bulk of the cellular proteins.
