Abstract

Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is the most commonly reported injury in Olympic class sailing, accounting for up to 53% of all injuries, and resulting in significant athlete incapacity. Despite the propensity for LBP in sailors, the aetiology of injury and relationship to pathoanatomical findings is presently unclear. The purpose of this study therefore was to examine the association between lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and LBP status in elite Olympic class sailors.
