Abstract

Purpose: Structural eligibility in DMOAD trials usually relies on radiographic selection criteria (e.g., Kellgren & Lawrence grades (KLG) or medial joint space narrowing (JSN)) to enrich the study cohort with knees that are likely to exhibit structural progression. Presence of joint space narrowing (JSN) has been observed to be a good predictor for subsequent structural progression, but has also been reported to not only depend on cartilage loss but also meniscus extrusion and damage. MRI-based MOAKS scores may allow more specific selection of knees with accelerated progression than radiographic selection criteria as they provide a more comprehensive description of joint tissue damages.
