Abstract

Oncocytoma is a rare kind of salivary gland tumor that is composed of oncocytic cells [Ellis GL, Auclair PL. Atlas of tumor pathology, tumors of salivary glands. Benign epithelial neoplasms, oncocytoma. Washington, DC: Armed Forces Institute of Pathology; 1996. p. 103–14; Huvos AG, Barnes L, Eveson JW, et al., editors. World Health Organization classification of tumours, pathology and genetics of head and neck tumours. Tumours of the salivary glands: oncocytoma. International Agency for Research on Cancer Press; 2005. p. 235; Brandwein MS, Huvos AG. Oncocytic tumors of major salivary glands: a study of 68 cases with follow-up of 44 patients. Am J Surg Pathol 1991;15(6):514–28; Sciubba JJ, Shimono M, Barnes L, et al., editors. World Health Organization classification of tumours, pathology and genetics of head and neck tumours. Tumours of the salivary glands: oncocytic carcinoma. International Agency for Research on Cancer Press; 2005. p. 266; Chang A, Harawi S. Oncocytes, oncocytosis and oncocytic tumors. Pathol Annu 1992;27(Pt 1):263–304]. Oncocytoma usually presents as a single well-defined mass, but sometimes multiple or bilateral oncocytomas are seen [Stomeo F, Meloni F, Bozzo C, Fois V, Pastore A. Bilateral oncocytoma of the parotid gland. Acta Oto-Laryngol 2006;126:324–6; San Pedro EC, Lorberboym M, Machac J, Som P, Shugar J. Imaging of multiple bilateral parotid gland oncocytomas. Clin Nucl Med 1995;20(6):515–8; Capone RB, Ha PK, Westra WH, et al. Oncocytic neoplasms of the parotid gland: a 16-year institutional review. Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2002;126:657–62]. Here we report a case of multiple oncocytoma in bilateral parotid glands.
